This was definitely a labor in love. This is based on one of my favorite photos of my kids when they were little. My daughter is sitting in a swing, and her big brother came over and kissed her on the cheek. She’s clearly delighted. I think I probably made about a dozen attempts before I both had a sketch I was happy with *and* didn’t totally screw it up painting, and then “fixing” issues. There were some pretty horrific versions in the process. There are still things I wish I could do differently, and I know I’ll never be 100% happy with it, but at least I knew when to stop painting this time. All in all, I’m happy with the end product and also happy to be able to stop trying sketching and painting this one photo. ]
Much thanks to Rowena Finn who gave me the advice that helped me finally stop making such a mess of the paintings.
