I was contacted by Eleanor Baker of Harrisonburg Cohousing about designing a half-page ad for their upcoming development of the Juniper Hill planned community. The ad will be featured in the Bloom I loved the concept of their mission which is to develop a neighborhood around an existing community of people. The idea is to form a community first, and then build the neighborhood where the community will live. The plans include a focus on sustainability, multi-generational relationships, diversity and will include a shared green space. There won’t be any roads other than what lead to each person’s driveway, which would be in the back of the houses. The houses would all face the common space to encourage community and building relationships. I started with the branding which was already in place, but had not been designed for CMYK print use. I took their existing RGB format logo and compared it to my trusty Pantone guide to find print colors that would best match what is seen on screen. After that was done, I needed to find a stock image that met the vision of the group which was warm and friendly. I used a script accent font to add that personal touch as well as a whimsical stock image that I felt represented a diverse multi-generational community. I also designed a digital version for the digital issue of the publication.
