The Arts Guild is a group of artists from The Church of the Incarnation (and the community) who work in varying mediums in the visual and performing arts, to the written word. They meet quarterly to share a meal and to get feedback and encouragement on pieces they are working on, or have just finished.
The Arts Guild also periodically organizes visits to local artist studios to give guild members a chance learn more about that artist and their craft.
As a member, I was tasked with creating a newsletter for the group. To make it feel more “official,” I decided that we should have at least a simple logo for the masthead of the newsletter. I also design for the church, as a staff member, so I wanted to stick to fonts that I routinely use for various things for the church. To add some visual appeal, I found a stock image that was a set of pens, pencils and brushes. I chose a brush (for visual artists) and a fountain pen (for the writers) and edited them to use the colors of our church’s branding. I crossed them so that they replaced the “t” in “Arts.”
I am pleased with the final result – it strikes a good balance of visual appeal, and communicating the nature of the group.
