In 2018, I was contacted by Nick Grow to take over design duties for the Augusta County Parks and Rec activities guide. This guide has traditionally come out quarterly, and includes not the many, many activities county residents can sign up. Their activities are various and span multiple categories including fitness and dance, youth activities, trips, community education, as well as news and important info from the county libraries, county parks, Natural Chimneys park, county social services, local 4-H groups, the commissioner of the revenue, fire & rescue, and other county offices.
This is often a 40-48 page publication, and there is a LOT of information and images to fit in those pages, so I’ve developed an extensive set of InDesign styles to keep everything consistent, while still ensuring content fits where it needs to. I also developed the cover design, which can be adapted to each guide’s season, and color coding for the various categories of information.
There was a couple year hiatus with COVID-19, but the guide is back, now every four months instead of quarterly, and I’m now working with Charley Schillinger instead of Nick, but the job has remained pretty consistent otherwise, and it’s a challenge I look forward to each time.
