This is a 7×7 watercolor painting I did of a cicada resting on concrete.  One day while out for a walk, I found a cicada on the sidewalk.  I went to move him so he wouldn’t get stepped on, but realized he was sadly deceased.  He was in perfect condition, so I brought him home, placed him on one of our porch walls, and took a photo of him.  I just loved the little pattern on his carapace.  Years later, while looking for subjects to paint, I ran across the photo again, and decided he’d make a lovely subject for a painting.
